Consent Form: Online Focus Group

This consent form is for participation in the research project ‘Island connections and return migration: The role of return migration in the sustainable repopulation of Scotland’s Islands’.

Please read the following information. If you agree to the terms laid out in this confidentiality agreement please provide your name and contact details at the bottom of the page, tick the consent box and submit the form.

A copy of this agreement and the participant information sheet should have also been provided to you by email. Please contact me if you require another copy of these.

  • I confirm that the research project ‘Island connections and return migration: The role of return migration in the sustainable repopulation of Scotland’s Islands’ has been explained to me. I have had the opportunity to ask questions about the project and have had these answered satisfactorily.
  • I consent to the material I contribute being used to generate insights for the research project ‘Island connections and return migration: The role of return migration in the sustainable repopulation of Scotland’s Islands’.
  • I understand that my participation in this research is voluntary and that I may withdraw from the research at any time (until the point of data analysis) without providing a reason.
  • I consent to this session being recorded for the purposes of creating a transcript for analysis and acknowledge that this may include the recording of video as well as audio.
  • I understand that the data collected in the focus groups is not classed as fully anonymous as other focus group participants may recognise my comments, but that my data will be pseudonymised (i.e. my name will be changed and personally identifiable characteristics will be removed) in transcripts in order to protect my identity.
  • I consent to allow my pseudonymised data to be used for future publications and other scholarly means of disseminating the findings from the research project.
  • I understand that the information/data acquired will be securely stored by researchers, but that appropriately anonymised data may in future be made available to others for research purposes.
  • I understand that the University may publish appropriately anonymised data in appropriate data repositories for verification purposes and to make it accessible to researchers and other research users.
  • I understand that I might be asked if I would like to be contacted about taking part in further research on this project or on follow up studies, but that I am under no obligation to agree to this.
  • I agree to take part in the above project ‘Island connections and return migration: The role of return migration in the sustainable repopulation of Scotland’s Islands’.
